Former US Vice President Dick Cheney was taken to hospital in Washington after becoming ill.
Doctors say the 69-year-old had been experiencing discomfort.
‘On the advice of his physicians, he was admitted to the (George Washington University) hospital for further testing. He is expected to remain in the hospital over the weekend,’ according to a statement from Cheney’s office.
Mr Cheney, who has a long history of heart problems, suffered his fifth heart attack in 32 years in February. He also suffered heart attacks in 1978, 1984, 1988 and 2000.
In 2001, he had a heart defibrillator implanted to monitor his heart and shock it back into a normal rhythm if abnormal beating occurred.
His office provided no further details.
