The parents of a 17-month-old baby who went missing in Northern Ireland are being questioned by police after the infant was found in Scotland.

The PSNI sought the help of the gardaí and Scottish police in an attempt to find the child.

Baby Sophie Anderson, who had been with foster parents since she was born, was collected by her mother Lucy, 30, at a social services office in Banbridge, Co Down, last Monday.

They took a taxi to Belfast and boarded a ferry for Stranraer in Scotland. The baby’s father, Stuart Creaney, 22, had taken an earlier sailing.

The police said they were seriously concerned for Sophie and asked Scottish police for help in finding her. The baby was traced to a caravan park in Dumfries in Scotland, and is said to be safe and well.

Her parents were held on suspicion of abduction and will face further questioning from PSNI detectives in Co Down.
