A search involving a rescue helicopter began shortly after midday when the alarm was raised.

The inshore RNLI boat with three crew members on board was on a regular exercise off Raven Point on the northern shore of Wexford Harbour.

Two crew members were clinging to the upturned hull of the boat and a third was rescued from the water.

The D Class lifeboat is a rigid inflatable boat used by the RNLI for the past 40 years and is used as an inland and limited coastal rescue boat.
