Beaumont Hospital has warned that the public could be putting patient safety at risk by failing to heed visiting restrictions in place due to swine flu.
The hospital is appealing to the public to comply with its restrictions to help prevent potential difficulties with the spread of the virus.
Beamont Hospital's guidelines say visitors should only come to the hospital if their visit is absolutely necessary; no one should visit if they have any signs or symptom of the flu; children under 14 years of age should not visit under any circumstances; and essential visits should be restricted to specific hours that the hospital has in place.
Professor Shane O'Neill, consultant at Beaumont, says despite appeals large numbers of people are ignoring signs at the hospital and the general advice.
He is particularly worried that large numbers of children under 14 are still coming into the wards, which has the potential to cause problems with spreading Influenza-A (H1N1) and the C Diff hospital bug.
In a statement, Beaumont Hospital says it could be forced 'to take further action' if the public fails to heed advice.
In the past, when they had bad outbreaks of the winter vomiting bug, they banned all visitors, which could be an option in the future.
