Five people including a baby have died in a fire at an apartment building in Paris.

The fire took place early this morning in a nine-storey building in the Beaudottes area of the northeastern suburb of Sevran.

A man was found dead in the staircase while another adult, two children and a baby died in a apartment on the building’s eighth floor.

29 other people suffered smoke inhalation and 15 were hospitalised.

The fire started at 4.17am (5.17am Irish time) and was put out two hours later.

Police have begun investigating what caused the fire.
