An Israeli hiker who wandered into a minefield has fallen to his death while being hoisted into a hovering rescue helicopter.
The man, who lost a foot when one of the mines exploded, slipped from a rescue harness just short of the air force helicopter's door yesterday evening near the Israeli town of Beit She'an.
Israeli television stations broadcast video of the man falling and hitting the ground.
The air force said it had opened an investigation.
