It is believed to be that of a missing man in his 40s from Co Mayo.

Members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team began the search yesterday evening after the man failed to keep an appointment to meet friends on the Reeks at lunchtime.

He had planned to spend Thursday night camping in the area.

The crew of a coastguard helicopter, assisting the search, directed the mountain rescue team to a bag which they spotted earlier this morning and the team located the man's body at an area known as Comeenuachtar.

The body was to be taken to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee where a post-mortem examination will take place.
