According to the London City Airport website, the runway is now closed and all remaining flights this evening have either been diverted or cancelled.

Fire crews were called to the airport just after 7.40pm when the four-engine aircraft had already been evacuated.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: 'We were called at 7.45pm to reports of an incident at London City Airport.'

'We sent six ambulance crews, two single responders in cars, two duty officers and we treated four patients for minor injuries.'

'No one was taken to hospital.'

The only remaining flight from Ireland BA flight 8466 out of Dublin, due to land at London City at 8.10pm, has been diverted.
