Don't have a cow - have four!

Loughrea - Quadruplet calves
Loughrea - Quadruplet calves

Cows are known for their four stomachs, but one proud mother in Co Galway is getting attention for her four calves.

The rare birth on a farm near Loughrea saw a heifer give birth to three males and one female.

Co Galway farmer Sean Larkin has been busy since their unexpected arrival into the world on Sunday evening.

He imported the heifer from Austria five years ago and their arrival certainly came as a surprise.

Multiple calve births are quite rare and even in cases of artificial insemination like this one, the chances of four calves being successfully delivered are said to be around 700,000 to one.
