Clean-up operation after China earthquake

An earthquake in southwest China has killed 25 people and injured more than 460 others.

The quake, measuring 6.1, struck the provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan yesterday afternoon.

The state run news agency Xinhua said that more than 1,000 houses had collapsed burying some people in the ruins, and that rescue efforts were being hampered by heavy rains and the region's rugged terrain.

More than 180,000 homes were damaged and at least 800,000 residents were affected, according to state media.

Most of those killed were residents of Sichuan, which was devastated by a massive earthquake in May that left nearly 88,000 people dead or missing.
