President Robert Mugabe's spokesman has said talks between Zimbabwe's ruling party and the opposition had reached a milestone.
However he declined to comment on whether a power-sharing deal was imminent.
George Charamba told state media that mediator South African President Thabo Mbeki would meet with both sides in weekend talks and consult them on moving the dialogue forward.
Mugabe's ZANU-PF and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC began talking more than two weeks ago to resolve a crisis that came to a head after Mr Mugabe was re-elected in a widely condemned June poll boycotted by the opposition.
