Teenager seriously hurt in Clare incident

A 17-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after he sustained serious injuries in an accident in Co Clare.

The incident occurred at around 5.30pm in an area known as the Pollock Holes in Kilkee.

It is understood the boy, who is believed to be from Limerick, dived into water and struck his head off rocks. He sustained a serious gash to his head as well as neck and back injuries.

He was recovered from the water by members of Kilkee Marine Rescue Service who treated him at the scene before the Shannon Coastguard helicopter was called in to airlift him to hospital.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
