The country's biggest bank, AIB, has been told that documents relating to the bank have been found at a Co Cork dump.

It is the same dump where confidential medical files relating to hundreds of patients at Cork hospitals were found just over two months ago.

RTE News has learned that the documents relate to loan applications and possibly to customer statements.

A spokeswoman for AIB said tonight the bank is investigating the matter and will inspect the site tomorrow.

Last April, hundreds of confidential patient files were found at the former Killacloyne dump near Glounthaune in East Cork during excavation works for the re-opening of the Cork-Midleton railway line.

The files contained the names, adressed dates of birth, medical conditions and treatments of people who attended a number of Cork hospitals.

The Health Service Executive has sealed the site, initiated investigation and promised to recover any other files which were buried there.
