A soldier has died following a shooting incident at Collins' Barracks in Cork city this morning.
The Defence Forces confirmed that the shooting happened at 8.40am, when the soldier, who was in his 40s, had just reported for duty.
Army investigators are treating the shooting as accidental and say no one else was involved in the incident.
A garda investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is also under way.
