White House hopeful Barack Obama has won his party's primary for Democrats living outside the United States.

Mr Obama won 65.6% of the vote held in 164 countries and territories around the world compared to 32.7% for his rival Hillary Clinton.

The global primary gives Mr Obama his 11th straight victory over Mrs Clinton, although only seven delegates were at stake.

Mr Obama has won 2.5 international delegates so far with two going to the former first lady, Democrats Abroad said.

The remaining 2.5 votes will be determined at the Democrats Abroad Global Convention in Vancouver, Canada, on April 12-13.

Eligible voters in Ireland cast their votes in the Democrats Abroad primary between 5 and 12 February.

Mr Obama won 62.5% of the ballot with Mrs Clinton taking 36.5%. Democrats Abroad in Ireland manned a ballot box in O'Neills pub on Suffolk Street in Dublin on Super Tuesday.

Democrats voted online for the first time in 164 countries, allowing a researcher at the US scientific mission at McMurdo  Station, Antarctica, to cast her vote.
