US President George W Bush has begun a five-nation tour of Africa aimed at highlighting US efforts to resolve regional disputes and to help eradicate HIV/AIDS and malaria.

Also likely to feature on the agenda during his six-day trip is the location of a new US military headquarters.

He arrived in the west African nation of Benin for a brief stopover, before moving on to Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana and Liberia.
