The UN is to set up an independent panel to investigate a bombing that killed 17 of its employees in Algiers last month.
A spokeswoman for Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he decided to appoint the panel after receiving a preliminary report from Under Secretary General for Safety and Security David Veness.
At least 37 people were killed in two car bombings in the Algerian capital on 11 December, one of which badly damaged UN offices.
Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the two explosions.
