A controlled explosion was carried out at 6.30am this morning at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin.

It is understood an unstable substance was discovered in one of the laboratories yesterday evening.

The Army bomb disposal team attended the scene.

The substance was taken to an area at the back of the hospital before being detonated.
