Drug allegations raised in the Dáil

The Taoiseach has been questioned in the Dáil about an allegation that a serving Minister has admitted to taking cocaine.

Fine Gael TD Simon Coveney asked Bertie Ahern if he was aware that a journalist had claimed an unnamed Minister had admitted taking drugs on a regular basis.

Mr Coveney asked if the Taoiseach was planning to call in his Ministers to ask them if the claim was true.

He read out the alleged quote from the Minister: 'Yes, I take drugs, only coke, and I am not the only one'.

Mr Ahern made no reply and the Ceann Comhairle advised Mr Coveney to raise the matter during statements on crime in the Dáil later today.
