Gardaí are investigating two serious assaults on women in the Athlone area.
The two violent assaults on the women who were out walking after dark took place in the last seven weeks.
In both incidents, a lone male attacker brutally assaulted the women, resulting in both of them being hospitalised.
The latest incident occurred last weekend when a middle-aged woman endured a severe physical attack at Bonavalley Bridge on the Dublin Road out of the town.
Detectives are keeping an open mind on whether the same man was involved in both attacks.
A photo fit picture has been produced to assist them in their inquiry.
