It has been announced that an obelisk will be placed on the site of the Omagh bombing as a memorial to the victims.

As a result of a competition to design a memorial to mark the 10th anniversary of the attack, landscape architect Desmond Fitzgerald and artist Sean Hillen are to create the 4.5m obelisk.

They have also designed a memorial garden in Omagh.

A budget of £250,000 has been allocated for the memorial, which should be in place before the 10th anniversary of the bombing next August.

29 people were killed in the 1998 attack.
