The Federation representing police in Northern Ireland has urged the British government to resist setting up a truth commission to deal with the Troubles.
With more than 3,200 unsolved murders already being investigated, and multi-million euro inquires into a series of controversial killings, the Police Federation Chairman Terry Spence warned there was a danger of establishing the world's biggest re-investigation industry.
Mr Spence confirmed the Federation has requested a meeting with Sinn Féin following its decision to join the Policing Board.
No response has yet come from the party, he said.
The comments were made at the Federation's annual conference, which was attended by the Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde and the Northern Secretary Shaun Woodward.
