Let's Talk About Sex, Baby - Parents needs to be more open to talk, urges Crisis Pregnancy Agency

The Crisis Pregnancy Agency wants parents to be more direct when discussing sex with their children.

In turn, the organisation says teenagers also need to be more open with their parents when it comes to talking about relationships.

According to the agency's annual report launched today, the implementation of sex education in schools is patchy and parents need to be much more involved in the conversation with their children about sex.

Caroline Spillane, the agency's director, said at the launch that there needs to be an enhanced focus on relationship and sex education classes, along with improved parental involvement in addressing these issues.

The report also shows that although most Irish women seeking abortions travel to the UK, there has been a decrease in the numbers giving Irish addresses every year, for the last six years.

There has been an increase in the numbers of women seeking terminations travelling to other countries.

The Agency believes around 200 women went to the Netherlands in 2006 for abortions and some women travelled to other countries, although in fewer numbers.
