Former US First Lady Lady Bird Johnson has died of natural causes at her home in Austin, Texas. She was 94.
Mrs Johnson, the widow of President Lyndon Johnson, had been in poor health for several years following a stroke in 2002, which had left her unable to speak.
Lyndon Johnson became president when John Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in November 1963. He held the office until 1969 and died of a heart attack in 1973.
Her real name was Claudia Alta Taylor but at the age of two her family's maid came up with her nickname, saying the girl was 'purty as a lady bird'.
Mrs Johnson was born in Karnack, Texas, on 22 December, 1912.
