The owner of a Chinese karaoke bar where 25 people were killed in an explosion yesterday was also a coal mine boss who may have stored explosives in the basement of the club.
The venue's owner, Qu Hau, was among the dead in Wednesday night's explosion which ripped through the two-storey bar in a coal mining town in northeastern Liaoning province.
Mr Qu was a local businessman, who many residents of the area say stored explosives used in his mines in the basement of the Tianying Karaoke Hall and Bath House.
Police were interviewing Mr Qu's wife about the incident but no official explanation for the explosion has yet been given.
Forty-one people were injured in the blast, four seriously.
Following the explosion, China's Ministry of Public Security ordered nationwide tightened safety inspections of all small hotels, bath houses, karaoke halls, cyber-cafes and pawn shops.
