Investigation begun into Cork coach crash

An investigation is under way into an accident near Cork city centre last night in which a private bus went out of control and crashed.

An investigation is under way into a road accident in Cork city last night in which a private bus went out of control and crashed.

Forty-two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the incident, which occured at around 8pm last night on Wellington Road.

The single-decker vehicle was bringing members of a social club for older people to a function when the crash occured.

Eye witnesses said that the bus spun out of control after colliding with a car, hitting a tree, a telegraph pole and a number of parked cars before coming to a halt.

Emergency services had to use cutting equipment to reach some of the passengers.

The road remained closed until 11am this morning
