Iarnród Éireann says train services in and out of Heuston Station in Dublin have returned to normal.
Services were suspended for more than two and a half hours this morning causing delays of up to two hours for commuters.
An estimated 12,000 rail passengers experienced delays as more than 40 trains were delayed or cancelled following the discovery of a body on the rail line near Sallins in Co Kildare at around 6am.
The incident had a knock-on effect on services up until mid afternoon, but services returned to normal at around 3pm this afternoon.
Iarnród Éireann said most people stayed away from train stations and made alternative travel arrangements when they became aware of the delays.
But traffic was heavier than usual on the Naas Road as a result, and queues were longer than usual to get onto the M50 in that area.
