The European Green Party today said it hoped members of the Green Party would feel able to vote in favour of entering government with Fianna Fáil.
In a statement, the Secretary General of the European Green Party, Juan Behrend, paid tribute to the Greens' negotiating team and its confidence of being able to implement Green policies as part of a government programme.
Meanwhile, the founder of the Green Party and its first TD, Roger Garland, said he feels betrayed by the decision of the party to agree a programme for Government with Fianna Fáil.
He said if reports of what the deal contains are true, it was 'unbelievably bad'.
He added that he believes the last thing voters had in mind when they voted Green was returning Fianna Fáil to power.
Mr Garland said he feared for the future of the party if delegates at this afternoon's special conference approved the deal.
However, Dún Laoghaire Green Party TD Ciarán Cuffe said the deal contained action on climate change, political reform and some fantastic initiatives.
It was an unprecedented opportunity to be in cabinet and have huge influence over the direction of Ireland over the next five years, he added.
The Minister for Children, Brian Lenihan, said the Green Party had an opportunity to address what is most important on its agenda by signing up to a coalition government led by Fianna Fáil.
