Mr Ju was ranked sixth on the Communist Party's Politburo Standing Committee, the all-powerful group of nine that rules China, with responsibility for the key economic and financial portfolios.
However, Mr Ju’s death is unlikely to have an impact on economic policy as another vice premier, Wu Yi, has already taking over his role.
