There has been an outbreak of the winter vomiting virus at St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin and Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.
At least 14 cases of Norovirus at St Vincent's and 15 cases at the Midland's facility have been confirmed. Both patients and staff members haven fallen ill at the two locations due to the bug.
To help stop the spread of the virus, management at both hospitals are appealing to the public to only come to the emergency department if necessary.
They are also asking people to avoid visiting patients unless absolutely essential and not to bring children with them if they must visit the hospitals concerned.
