The leader of the Green Party, Trevor Sargent, has said that banning corporate donations will be high on his party's agenda if it enters into a new government with Fianna Fáil.

However, he said it was pointless to talk about meeting other parties until they put their policies on the table.

He said his party's decision would depend on how serious other parties are about forming a stable government, and added that any coalition partner would have to look carefully at Green Party policies.

He said he had mixed emotions about his party's performance last night.

He was disappointed at the loss of outgoing TD Dan Boyle in Cork South Central, but welcomed the performance of his colleague Mary White in Carlow-Kilkenny.

Mr Sargent has said Dan Boyle will continue to play an important role in Green Party policy.

He said his party had managed not to be squeezed to the same extent as other smaller parties.
