Bad news for Govt parties in poll

watch

There is further bad news for the Government parties in a Millward Brown IMS poll to be published in the Irish Independent tomorrow.

The poll, which was taken last Wednesday and Thursday, shows Fiannal Fail down 3 points to 35%, Fine Gael up 3 to 26%, Labour at 13% up 1, the PDs 3% down 1, the Greens 5% down 1, Sinn Féin 10% up 2 and Independent and others unchanged at 8%.

Our Political Corespondent says that the trend in this poll - if it continues to polling day in ten days' time - would see Fine Gael and Labour outstripping Fianna Fáil and the PDs, even without the support of the Green Party.

Surveys from this firm have in the past been said to overestimate Fianna Fáil and underestimate Fine Gael support.

Just before the last election, Millward Brown IMS gave Fianna Fáil 50%, ent against the eventual outcome of just over 42%.
