A group of top former World Bank executives has urged the bank's President Paul Wolfowitz to resign following the controversy over the promotion of his girlfriend.
In a letter, the 42 senior executives advise Mr Wolfowitz to give up the presidency for the good of the bank.
The Independent Evaluation Group, an independent unit within the bank, has warned that his actions were undermining the ability of the institution to carry out development work.
This week a bank committee will report on whether Mr Wolfowitz abused his position.
