A man questioned about yesterday's fatal road traffic accident in Sligo has been released without charge.

A 55-year-old man died in Sligo General Hospital yesterday afternoon after he was struck by a car at Stone Park in Ballymote.

The car that hit him went on to collide with a parked car.

It happened at 12.55pm; the man was pronounced dead in hospital at 3.40pm.

Gardaí in Ballymote arrested the driver of the car and he was detained at Sligo Garda Station for questioning last night.

He was released this morning.

The name of the deceased man will not be released before Saturday.
