The Government is to buy the West-Link toll bridge for €600m.

Transport Minister Martin Cullen made the announcement following today's Cabinet meeting.

Mr Cullen said that the company which owns the West-Link, National Toll Roads, will receive annual payments of €50m until 2020.

Mr Cullen said there is no golden handshake and that the deal is the best option for motorists.

He said it will lead to the removal of the toll plaza and the introduction of barrier free tolling.
