Gardaí have named the victims of this morning's house fire in Adamstown, County Wexford. They were 44 year old Alice Connors and her eight year old daughter, Mary.
Their bodies were removed from the scene this evening, after Gardai carried out a technical examination.
An investigation is continuing into the cause of the fire, but Gardai are not treating it as suspicious.
The woman who died was a 44-year-old mother of four who had celebrated her birthday yesterday.
Her daughter, who also died in the fire, was eight years old and was due to make her first Holy Communion in the coming weeks.
The family have lived in the house at Woodview Drive for around 11 years.
Neighbours who witnessed the fire said that the mother had managed to escape from the house, but went back in to try to save her daughter, but was overcome by the flames.
The family's 17-year-old son managed to jump from a rear window and is being treated in Wexford Hospital for minor injuries.
The woman's husband was not in the house at the time and was unable to save the victims when he returned.
He suffered smoke inhalation injuries.
The fire broke out at around 2am this morning at a family home at Woodview Drive in Adamstown, between Enniscorthy and New Ross.
Superintendent Peter Finn of Enniscorthy Garda Station said the blaze is believed to have broken out upstairs in the house.
He said neighbours tried in vain to help the family.
