The Minister for Labour Affairs, Tony Killeen, has responded to reports that letters were sent from his office seeking the early release from prison of a convicted murderer.

Mr Killeen had earlier been criticised for letters seeking the early release of a convicted paedophile.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland, Mr Killeen, a Fianna Fáil TD representing Clare, said he did not sign the letter seeking the early release of a convicted murderer and did not stand over it.

Mr Killeen said that letters have been sent from his office in relation to ten different prisoners.

He added that the representations were made by staff in his constituency office without his knowledge.
