Around 260 passengers who were due to fly to Boston on Friday have finally departed after being stranded at Shannon airport for the past three days.

The passengers - who had been put up at hotels - only departed on today's scheduled Aer Lingus flight to Boston.

Their Aer Lingus flight left Dublin on Friday afternoon, but a technical problem was detected after it landed in Shannon.

The plane departed for the US after the fault was repaired, but it recurred 30 minutes into the flight and the pilot was forced to return to Shannon.

A flight yesterday was cancelled because of another technical problem.
