A man has died after he was struck by a wave in Co Down.

The man was walking along the pier at Ardglass when he was struck by the wave.

The incident was reported to police just after 9pm.

He has been named as 46-year-old Paul Bogues.

Mr Bogues lost a son in a drowning accident in the port last January – his son was one of two men who died in a fishing tragedy at the beginning of this year after the vessel they were on hit rocks and sank.

Meanwhile Doolin Coastguard have recovered the body of a man at Lahinch, Co Clare.

The body has not been formally identified but it is believed to be that of a man who entered the sea there earlier this afternoon.

A massive search was launched shortly after 4pm today after reports that a man was washed out to sea.

Conditions at the time are said to have been treacherous.
