Emergency works end after Dublin gridlock

Emergency works that contributed to traffic gridlock in Dublin yesterday have finished.
Delays of up to four hours were reported on the M50 and N11 routes south of the city yesterday evening resulting in some commuters taking almost seven hours to get from work to home.
AA Roadwatch said it had been notified of the planned works on Tuesday afternoon and had issued warnings to motorists.
However, speaking on RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland, Conor Faughnan said it was always difficult to predict how much traffic disruption would be caused by emergency roadworks.
Also on the programme, Brian McKeown of Dublin City Council Water Services apologised for the disruption.
Mr McKeown accepted that information about the emergency works should have been sent out earlier than yesterday afternoon.
He said procedures for giving out information would be reviewed.
Both lanes on the N11 at Silverbridge in Bray in Co Wicklow re-opened late last night after emergency repairs on water works there finished.
It had been thought that the repair work would continue into this morning.
