Six One News: David Davin-Power, Political Correspondent, reports on the decision by Dick Roche, Minister for the Environment, to extend the deadline on local authorities to finalise electoral registers
The public will have until 9 December to submit changes to their entry on the register.
His move follows pressure from opposition parties who had claimed there was insufficient time for the public to ensure they were entitled to vote.
Speaking this afternoon, Mr Roche said that he had received requests from three county councils seeking more time and rather than confine any extensions to their areas he had decided to allow more time to every local authority.
