A 27-year-old Latvian man has drowned while fishing from rocks off the Clare coast this afternoon.
He was one of a group of people who were fishing at Ballard near Kilkee when the accident occurred.
His wife and children were standing on ground above the ledge when he was taken by a wave.
The rock ledge at Blue Pool is known to be dangerous.
The angler had travelled down from Athlone several times before to fish there.
A rescue worker described how conditions were particularly hazardous this afternoon, with an incoming spring tide, and a westerly wind combining to create a large swell.
The alarm was raised at 1.20pm. An hour later his body was recovered by the Kilkee Inshore Lifeboat.
His body has been taken to Limerick Regional Hospital for a post mortem examination.
Last Sunday a Polish man was drowned while fishing from rocks about 15km from where today's accident took place.
An operation to recover his body continued today, and will resume tomorrow.
