Rossport dispute - Poll shows backing for men

An opinion poll carried out for Nuacht TG4 shows that six out of ten people in Mayo think that the Corrib Gas Terminal should be located offshore at sea. Less that a quarter think that it should be built at the planned Bellanaboy site in the north west of the county.

The Poll also shows that that two thirds of the people questioned supported the stand taken by the five Rossport men, who were jailed last year, following their defiance of a court order in relation to the pipeline. One in five did not give the men their support, according to the poll.

Almost four out of five of those polled believe that the whole pipeline development was handled badly by Shell E&P Ireland, while fewer that one in ten believed the company handled the issue well.

Commentary prepared by TNS-MRBI

Léirionn pobalbhreith a rinne Nuacht TG4 TNS mrbi go gceapann seisear as gach deichniúr i Maigh Eo gur ceart Críochfort Gáis na Coiribe a lonnú amach ón gcósta. Ceapann níos lú ná aon cheathrú díobh siúd a ceistíodh gur cheart go dtógfaí an críochfort I mBéal an Átha Buí, mar atá beartaithe.

Léiríonn an phobalbhreith freisin, gur thacaigh beirt as gach triúr sa chontae leis an gcúigear fear as Ros Dumhach a cuireadh i bpríosún tar éis dóibh ordú cúirte  a bhain leis an bpíblíne gháis a shárú anuraidh. De réír na pobalbhreithe nior thacaigh duine as cúigear leis na fir.

Agus creideann beagnach ceathrar as gach cúigear gur láimhseáil an comhlacht Shell E&P Ireland forbairt na píblíne go dona. De réír na pobalbhreithe, nior cheap ach níos lú ná duine as deichniúr gur láimhseáil an comhlacht an fhorbairt go maith
