Fire breaks out at Cork metal plant

Fire officers are attempting to put out a blaze at a scrap metal recycling plant in Cork city.

A massive black plume of smoke can be seen all over the city and from as far away as Ballincolig.

The fire broke out at the Cork Metal plant on Dublin Hill in the city shortly after 9.30pm tonight.

Five units of the fire brigade are at the scene of the blaze, which appears to be centred in a large mountain of scrap metal.

Dozens of people have gathered to watch the blaze and there are traffic delays in the area.

A fire previously broke out at the plant and it took two days to bring it completely under control.
