Diver dies in hospital after Cork rescue

A diver who was taken from the water by the Baltimore Lifeboat during a search and rescue operation in Goleen Bay off the Co Cork coast last night has died.

The diver had not been seen since around 3pm yesterday afternoon.

His boat was later found anchored near Spanish Point and the alarm was raised.

The Waterford-based search and rescue helicopter and the LE Eithne also took part in the operation last night. 

The diver was taken from the water shortly after 10pm and transferred by helicopter to Cork University Hospital where he died this morning.
