Security staff at Dublin Airport have agreed to accept a Labour Relations Commission recommendation that they co-operate with an online check-in system introduced by Ryanair.

However the security personnel, who are members of SIPTU, say they will operate the system under protest.

The decision follows a recommendation from the LRC after the dispute was referred to it last week.

Security staff had initially refused to process boarding passes for Ryanair passengers issued under the new system.

However after a meeting with SIPTU officials today, the 450 members agreed to operate the new system under protest.

The union has set a deadline of 31 May for outstanding industrial relations issues to be resolved.

Ryanair is the first airline at Dublin Airport to introduce online check-in where customers can print out boarding passes from home computers.

The airline will soon introduce scanning equipment at Dublin Airport where boarding passes can be processed at security gates.
