Controversial Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri has been sentenced in London to seven years in prison on each of six counts of inciting murder.

He also received sentences of between 21 months and three and a half years on lesser charges.

Sheikh Hamza was found guilty this morning of race hate charges and using his sermons to incite murder by an Old Bailey jury.

Sentencing him, Mr Justice Hughes said he had helped to create an atmosphere in which some people regarded killing as a moral and religious duty in pursuit of perceived justice.

Abu Hamza, who preached at the Finsbury Park mosque in London, was found guilty of 11 of the 15 charges he faced.

He had defended himself by saying he had been encouraging Muslims to stand up for themselves.
