The United States Vice President, Dick Cheney, has left hospital in Washington after being treated for shortness of breath.

A statement from his office said Mr Cheney was admitted after retaining fluid as a result of anti-inflammatory medication he has been taking for a foot problem.

Mr Cheney, 64, has suffered several heart attacks over the past 25 years.

He underwent angioplasty in November 2000 after suffering his fourth heart attack since 1978.
