The death has taken place of Peter Driscoll, the Chief Radio News sub-editor in RTÉ.
He was aged 63 and had recently suffered a heart attack.
He was the author of several novels including The Wilby Conspiracy which became the basis of a film of the same name.
Mr Driscoll is survived by his wife, Angela and daughters, Justine and Miranda.
