Emergency teams search for hurricane survivors

Emergency workers in Central America and southern Mexico are digging through collapsed hillsides trying to find hundreds of people still missing in the wake of deadly tropical storm Stan.

Emergency workers in Central America and southern Mexico are digging through collapsed hillsides trying to find hundreds of people still missing in the wake of deadly tropical storm Stan.

The death toll in Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and southern Mexico has reached 617, and is expected to rise further.

In the Guatemalan town of Santiago Atitlan, 60 bodies have already been recovered after mud slides engulfed entire communities.

Some 200,000 people have been forced to flee their homes.

Many communities remain cut off and more rain is forecast over the weekend.
